Beverly Tapinski has run away from home plenty of times, but that was when she was just a kid. By now, she figures, it's not running away. It's leaving.

"This accomplished storyteller ... makes every line work so hard each paragraph positively glows."

In a slim book DiCamillo tackles activism (Doris and Charles, two cash-in-hand workers at Mr C’s strike to go on the books), celebrity (Freddie the waitress has big dreams but little taste in men), trust (Iola knows that Beverly won’t steal her car) and the power of art and words to save you (reading the line “In a crooked little house by a crooked little sea” scratched on the ceiling of a phonebox feeds Beverly’s soul). If Raymie Nightingale was about the importance of friendship and Louisiana’s Way Home about deciding who you are, this novel is about the importance of acting on your self-knowledge.
