"Dear Reader is a pleasure to read."

“I didn’t want people to read in the same way they might eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day, but because I wanted them to know the mind-expanding privilege of walking a mile in someone else’s shoes,” she writes of her time in adult education. Dear Reader celebrates reading as a means of connection and a vehicle for escapism. It’s a heartfelt reminder that, for all the wholesome effects that reading arguably has, the first reason to do it is for pleasure. Fittingly, Dear Reader is a pleasure to read.

"a wonderful homage to books of all genres"

This is a wonderful homage to books of all genres, and their ability to distract us from life's tribulations. Cathy charts the key moments in her life through the books that brought her comfort and joy — especially during some very difficult times for her. A must for every bookshelf, but be warned — you'll be adding to your collection by the end of it with some truly lovely recommendations.
