"Wrenching sobs and daft giggles in equal measure"

Grief, growing up and dog grooming form the backbone of this hugely touching memoir. Emily Dean's sister and both parents all died within three years leaving her feeling very alone, so she did what she'd both longed for and avoided: committed to a puppy. Wrenching sobs and daft giggles in equal measure.

"so endearing it had me in tears"

Emily is now the only survivor of this extraordinary family — her parents died three years after her sister. The title of her funny, sparklingly honest and heart-breaking memoir pulls no punches. It is a defiant statement that refuses to tiptoe around grief. It contains misery and happiness in one phrase...

The finale of this rather wonderful book — where she smuggles Ray into the cemetery to meet her family — is so endearing it had me in tears.
