The prime suspect in a murder resurfaces after 15 years and Detective Dana Russo is in a race againts time to get him to speak up. A dark and compulsive read.
Twenty-five years ago to the day something Very Bad happened to Dana Russo. Her wallowing in misery is interrupted by the murder of a local shopkeeper. The main suspect is a weirdo who has been hiding in the Australian bush for 15 years. Can Dana get him to cough before she completely loses her marbles? The heart of this grim story is a game of verbal ping-pong between these two damaged souls. As the observation cell in the cop shop is nicknamed the Lecter Theatre we are clearly meant to think of Hannibal playing cat-and-mouse with Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs, but Steve White lacks the ironic relish with which Thomas Harris described the horrors. A former policeman in Britain, he pays more attention to procedure than pace.
