From board game cafes to puzzle books, we need diversion more than ever. This cheeky but nostalgic look at the history of board games is the perfect Christmas gift.

"nostalgic compendium"

Yet reading Tristan Donovan’s nostalgic compendium, in which he explores the stories of board games, from Ancient Egypt to artificial intelligence, I felt more warmly about these relationship-ruiners. They encourage us to put aside our phones and talk to each other... One of Donovan’s most interesting themes is the way games have moved far from their original message.
