"a delightful, stealthily affecting story about what it means to be a family"

Once the premise has been introduced, however, it’s as if Wilson suddenly relaxes into the novel he came here to write: a delightful, stealthily affecting story about what it means to be a family. In large part, this is a book about childcare, an experience so common in life and yet so relatively rare in literature, and Wilson has an ear for the way children talk, as well as evident first-hand knowledge of the bewilderments of looking after them.
