Okwonga is considered, intelligent, and poetic in his prose. This is an earnest, and often intimate reflection on his life and his perceived shortcomings. Perceived, because, at times the standards he holds himself to are so arbitrary. In one way, Okwonga’s humility and modesty clearly shows that he is not, as he writes, one of them. He is so aware of the opportunity afforded to him through his education that he fails to give due recognition to his own accomplishments; as an author and as a person.
