Robert Bryndza’s knack at shuffling the clichés of the crime genre clearly counts for more than his lack of style. This time Kate, still teaching and sleuthing on the side, finds a body while diving in a reservoir behind a hydroelectric dam with her (and the psychopath’s) teenage son. Shocks of all kinds ensue. The wonky, perfunctory result reads like Thomas Harris rewritten by Enid Blyton (complete with pitch-black dungeon and night-vision goggles).
