Welford, the author of excellent stories... has done it again, creating a cracking plotty adventure with added science (without it feeling like “the science bit”) and a hard emotional hit. Georgie’s mum is dead and she must also come to terms with her father marrying Jessica, her stepmother, while not forgetting her real mum (while saving the world). Welford navigates dogs, what makes us tick and how to keep the spirit of a loved one alive without drowning in nostalgia. I think that’s called having it covered.
The Dog Who Saved the World combines a fantastical plot, relying on an ingenious manipulation of the laws of quantum physics, with a traditional and warm-hearted adventure full of friendship, growing understanding, and family love... Genuine emotions are always at the centre of the action, however wild it gets, and no matter what is going on around them, we trust his characters who are as warm and realistic as they come.
