"an insightful peek into the state of the intelligence world, but also aspects of the modern-day American psyche"

Having served a year in prison after his unsanctioned operation to infiltrate the group went wrong, and with his career and marriage in tatters, Dunne is seeking “R&R”: revenge and redemption. His journey takes him from America’s suburban sprawl to Taiwan’s skyscrapers. Nobody writes about the modern CIA better than Ignatius, but here he also gets under the skin of the Wikileaks/Snowden crowd. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of The Paladin, however, is its depiction of a deflated, shabby US.
