"Johnston manages to make the world of “runtime executables” and “rootkits” thrilling — no mean feat"

Johnston is best known for his noirish graphic novel The Coldest City, filmed as the garish Charlize Theron vehicle Atomic Blonde, and this also features a brilliant and no-nonsense female operative. Sharp (half-French and half-British, recruited by MI6 at Cambridge) is on the trail of “Tempus”, a hacker holding the powerful to ransom by threatening to leak the contents of their hard drives. Johnston manages to make the world of “runtime executables” and “rootkits” thrilling — no mean feat — while also featuring car chases and old-fashioned mole-hunts on the streets of Tallinn.
