"blends reality, history and imagination"

Lawrence, who is celebrated for her Roman Mysteries series, has embarked on a new sequence that blends reality, history and imagination. The Time Travel Diaries tells the story of Alex, who is recruited to go back to Ancient Rome to find out what he can about a teenage girl whose corpse has been discovered in our day. He travels through a portal at the Temple of Mithras, in the centre of London/Londinium. Both the body of the girl and the ruins of the temple really exist. Lawrence brings her scholarship and invention to a grisly adventure that reveals how brutal and unhealthy Roman times were, as Alex and an unwelcome companion face dangers ranging from gladiatorial contests to tempting flirtations.
