"Leon is a superb novelist"

Trace Elements concerns the suspicious death of a man who worked for a water company. The corruption eventually exposed is, of course, moral as well as physical and Guido can only rely on “gossip and insinuation, those Venetian twins of truth” to obtain the necessary confessions. Should anyone still doubt that Leon is a superb novelist, let them consider the scene in which Guido gently questions a woman during the last few minutes of her life. You can feel the tension, fear, horror — and wonder.
