Somehow this is not an entirely depressing book. A highlight is Ashcroft’s team rescuing a lion, Simba, and sending it to a sanctuary. This should really be read as a call for broader action, though. Governments can end this cruel trade and we can all contribute, not just by lobbying, but also by seeing these killers for who they really are. They are not macho hunters; they are wimpy sadists slaughtering anaemic imitations of nature’s most majestic beast.
