"a very engaging writer"

He is most famous now for his experiments in animal telepathy, and his overarching idea of “morphic resonance”, according to which there is a kind of immaterial memory in nature. He is a maverick but not a crank. Like much of his work, this book too is an attempt to reconcile experimental science with the seemingly transcendental nature of experience.... Sheldrake is a very engaging writer: he sprinkles his book with amusing anecdotes about travelling in India, taking drugs with Terrence McKenna, or training in the Japanese martial art aikido, but is also very scrupulous about when he is adducing hard scientific evidence for his claims and when he is floating hypotheses.
