"(a) gorgeously written memoir about inheritance, exile and the healing power of gardening"

Gorgeously written memoir about inheritance, exile and the healing power of gardening, as the author describes her experience of relocating to Switzerland, where she attempts to put down roots and create a new garden, in the face of suspicion, hostility and downright xenophobia. Rich with horticultural detail and poetic references (Lynch is a Milton scholar), it explores how nurturing plants can help us both nurture ourselves, and forge a sense of belonging in an unfamiliar place or in difficult circumstances.
